Dr. Paul Liu is a professor from the College of Science at North Carolina State University. In the Fall 2024 semester, he taught a graduate-level course titled “Generative AI for Science.” Additionally, he has conducted intensive AI-LLM training workshops for the Bioinformatics Research Center and the Research Triangle AI Society.

 

In this session, Dr. Liu will deliver a series of hands-on demonstrations covering:

  • Creating a tiny small language model from scratch
  • Distilling a large language model (LLM) into a smaller, more efficient version
  • Pruning a complex LLM into a simpler, portable model
